Event Details
Have you ever heard of a Timberdoodle, a Bogsucker, or a Labrador Twister? These are actually all names for the same bird, also known as an American Woodcock. Join us at dusk for a special program at the Riverton Branch where we will learn about the biology and habits of this unique bird. If we are very lucky, we may see or hear these harbingers of spring or witness the amazing aerial display of a male woodcock looking to impress a mate.
This program will be led by Elise Smorczewski, a Maine Master Naturalist and illustrator who lives in Portland, Maine. She is passionate about insects and other under-loved animals, and enjoys helping others overcome their aversion through education.
Please note: This will be an outdoor program; please dress appropriately for the weather and for walking along a paved path and grassy meadow.
