Brazen Bandits invite you to make a paper mache mask with us for Trans Day of Visibility! Paper mache mask-making is a powerful combination of both whimsy and sincerity, of visual art and performance -- somehow the combination serves to make us feel safe enough to go deeper. The magic of trans people is not that we're trans, it's that we have asked ourselves these questions and faced the answer that came, even when it meant giving up all we know, the ground we were standing on, the lives, stories, identities, and sometimes relationships, that we had built on that ground. You're invited to engage with the questions: "Where have you been?", "Where are you now?" and "Where are you going?” as guides in your creation.
Important Information:
This two-day workshop will be a trans-centered, intergenerational, ADA accessible space, and open to all identities. Come prepared for mutual admiration across difference, and celebration of divergence. On day one we'll create the paper mache forms, and let them dry overnight. On day two, we'll decorate and paint the masks! The bandits will be on hand to help execute your ideas and support you in the process. The time will go by quickly, so come with ideas, maybe even a plan.
Snacks and materials provided, but if you have fun random things you want to put on your mask, bring 'em!
Registration is recommended, but not required. **Please note: any children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. If you are registering for your child and/or others, please register ALL individuals in your party.
[Elmer's glue will be used during this workshop; if you have ingredient or allergen concerns, you can find ingredient info here.]
